How to use

Horse Spray:
We recommend applying the Spray 3-4 times a day at first (although it will not do any harm if you feel you need to apply more frequently than this). When you start to see an improvement, you can reduce the frequency to 1-2 times a day. When the skin has returned to relative normalcy, you can continue using the Spray a few times a week to keep the skin topped up with moisture and nutrients.

Horse Gel:
With clean hands, pump some Gel onto your fingers and gently massage it into the affected area, or dab on if the skin is very sore.

Horse Shampoo:
Apply to wet coat and massage in gently. Allow to sit for a few minutes then rinse off with lukewarm water.

For itchy and problem skin, we recommend using the Spray and Gel together. In this case, start by applying the Spray and briefly wait until it’s been absorbed by the skin. Follow up by applying the Gel on any red hot, sensitive, sore or damaged areas to further nourish and protect the skin.

When you start to see an improvement, you can reduce the frequency to 1-2 times a day. If your horse needs a wash, make sure to use our gentle, natural Horse Shampoo - but avoid over-washing, as it can disturb the natural balance of the skin.

FAQs

What is the difference between Spray and Gel?

The Gel is designed to soothe sore and itchy skin. It can be used on broken skin to aid wound healing and is perfect to use on the face and paws, as well as targeted areas on the rest of the body. The cooling gel texture calms inflamed skin quickly and nourishes the area to help bring it back to health.

The Spray is great at stopping the itch/scratch cycle quickly and is easy to use on larger areas of unbroken skin. It has 15 natural oils and extracts that feed the skin healthy minerals and vitamins. This increases the skin's strength over time and helps prevent flare ups and skin irritations. They work very well together, as the spray sinks quickly into the skin, and once absorbed, the gel sits nicely on top to further protect the skin and promote healing.

Do the products smell?

Yes, due to the natural oils and extracts we use, Anicura products have naturally occurring scents. There are no added synthetic fragrances, and we always avoid ingredients which are widely accepted to be unsuitable for sensitive or problem skin such as steroids, parabens, lanolin, phthalates, sodium laurel sulphate, antibiotics, cortisones or paraffin. The smell of our spray is slightly more potent as it has 15 different oils and extracts that sink deep into the skin to provide nutrients for a healthy and deeply moisturised skin and coat. The gel has very light almost undetectable smell as its designed to be used on those sore, inflamed areas with small open wounds.

Can the Shampoo be used as anti-itch treatment?

Whilst the Shampoo has many of the similar effective ingredients found in our dog spray and gel, they are not designed as an anti-itch ‘medical’ shampoo. Those shampoos might be required to be used daily or often. Anicura shampoo and conditioner are very gentle to use as they do not contain harsh or artificial ingredients. They are especially suitable for pets that suffer from sensitive, dry, itchy and flaky skin. The shampoo will help nourish and hydrate your dog’s coat and skin. If you are looking for instant and long lasting relief for your pets’ skin, we recommend our Spray or Gel as they are more potent and specifically designed for itchy skin. They have the same soothing properties but can be applied as needed, so that way you don’t have to bathe your pet too often (we generally only recommend bathing your pet if absolutely necessary).

How long will it take before I see results?

This is really difficult to say, as every skin is different. Some of our customers will see results after one or just a few applications, for some it may take a couple of weeks. The most important thing is applying frequently and sticking with it. The skin fully renews itself every 28 days, so one would expect a change within this timeframe.
